Jenny Han wrote The Summer I Turned Pretty book trilogy released from 2009 to 2011. The first book in the series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, tells the story of a teenage girl, Isabella (nicknamed Belly), who falls in love with two brothers over the course of a couple of years during her early teens. Every summer, Belly and her brother Steven travel with their mom to the Fisher family beach house in Cousins Beach, a small town in New England where they meet with Conrad, Jeremiah, and Susannah Fisher and hang out the entire summer. Susannah went to college with Laurel, Belly, and Steven’s mom, and the two have brought their families together over the summer since the kids were little. Conrad, an angsty senior in high school who has gone through many personal and family problems is the older of the two brothers who Belly has had a crush on since she was a child, however, one summer everything seemed to change for her. Jeremiah, who had always been best friends with Belly since they were young, now suddenly seems like a viable option for Belly. As the three books unroll, topics of terminal illness, death within a family, teenage drama, divorce, and self-complication are brought up frequently. This trilogy was recently made into a television series on Amazon Prime, and the first two seasons have already been released, in addition to the current filming for Season 3.
Jenny Han has also released a popular book series turned movie series called To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. If you enjoy reading teen romance books, then both of these series are a great option for you!
