I chose this book because I think it is very entertaining with many plot twists, and it is an easy read, especially with winter break coming up!
The main characters in If He Had Been With Me are Autumn and Finny. They are childhood friends and their mothers are best friends. Their mothers ended up buying houses side by side to raise their children close to each other. Autumn is a kind of stereotypical “weird girl,” or at least that is how people from her school claim she is. She used to be a cheerleader and was on the popular side, but she soon quit that with her best friend, Sasha. Autumn and Sasha have a few other close friends you will learn about in the book. Finny is on the more popular side and is friends with cheerleaders and other popular kids, but still, Finny is a very kind and considerate kid. He and Autumn grew apart after middle school but still obviously saw each other because they live so close.
The genre of this book is romance with both happy and sad parts. I will say this book is on the sadder side and has a lot of emotion to it. This book has a lot of turning head moments that you definitely wouldn't predict, or at least I wouldn't have predicted them.
In conclusion, I think this book is a very entertaining book with a lot of interesting moments and it is not boring at all. There is always something new you are learning or just a crazy moment. If you like romance novels that are very engaging, this book is definitely for you. Also, there is a second book in this series. “If He Had Been With Me" is the first book written from Autumn's point of view, but the second book, “If Only I Had Told Her,” is written from Finny's point of view mixed with a few others.
