Here is a list of my favorite quotes, whether they’re from movies, songs, books, or simply just creative people. Some of these quotes are popular, so you may recognize them! I think when you hear something that pretty much changes your life, you want other people to hear it too. I hope some of these inspire you like they did for me!
“Work in silence. Let your success be your noise”- Frank Ocean
This one is simple, yet has a strong message. What I take away from this quote is that you don’t need to brag about how good your life is or how high your grades are because people will know when they see your success and your future life. Let your accomplishments speak for themselves!
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”- John Lennon
I really like this quote, and it’s a popular one! I think Lennon is trying to say that we need to focus on the present instead of the future, and if we don’t, we can miss everything. I think focusing on the “now” will slow down time for us, while looking ahead will speed everything up. We all have a timeline, and I think we should try to slow it down as much as we can, so as not to miss anything. For example, you may be planning to go to an event in the near future, but you’re not present, and you’re missing out on what’s happening right in front of you.
“Just because my dreams are different than yours, doesn't mean they’re unimportant”- Meg March in Little Women movie
This is definitely one of my favorite quotes! I recently watched Little Women for the first time ( I know, I’m late to the party) and I absolutely adored it. This quote stood out to me because it’s something that should be so obvious to us, but it’s not. I think a lot of people disregard others' dreams or plans for the future because they are not the same or similar to theirs. I think we all need to have an understanding that our passions are going to be different, and that’s okay. We would be robots if we all wanted the same life, and I think that it’s important to accept that all dreams are important.
“A life ain’t a life till you live it”- Mac Miller
I love this quote because it’s so straight to the point. I think what he means by this quote is that we should do everything we want to do in life because then, instead of just surviving, we would be living. We would be living our lives to the fullest and being and doing who and what we want. This quote is really impactful because it makes you sit back and ask yourself, “Am I living my life the way I actually want to?” Or at least that’s what I asked myself when I first heard this quote. A quote that makes you self-reflect is the strongest kind in my opinion.
“You need to learn to enjoy life without needing an audience to see that you’re enjoying life” -Unknown
I’m not sure who created this quote but it’s such a good one! I think this is really relevant right now, especially because of social media. Lots of people post their lives on social media for others to see how “great” their life is. What I take away from this quote is that we need to be able to be happy with our lives and our success without needing to flaunt or brag about it. Just because others don’t see us being happy doesn’t mean we can’t still be happy privately. We can be proud of ourselves and tell others our accomplishments, but we should also be able to keep some of it to ourselves, not needing validation from others.
“Just because things could have been different doesn't mean they would've been better” -Unknown
I love this one a lot because so many people are upset over something that didn’t go the way they wanted it to, but it could have put them on the wrong path. Where you are right now is where you are supposed to be, and no worrying or regret can change your past. I think we have to learn to be okay with how things turned out and not wish that they ended differently. Something to think about is the fact that maybe your life right now is better than it would have been if things had gone your way.
“Maybe you don’t realize how good you’re doing because you keep raising the bar”- Unknown
This is my all-time favorite quote! Many students (including myself) struggle with academic validation and putting pressure on ourselves to be the best we can. We keep raising our expectations and standards for ourselves, so we don’t even see that we’re already as successful as we wanted to be years or even months ago. By striving for more each year, we’re forgetting how much progress we've already made. I think this quote allows us to see that we are already better than we think!
“It’s okay to outgrow people who don’t grow”- Unknown
I think a lot of people, especially teens, can relate to this quote because as we get older, it’s easier to fall out with people we used to be close with. Sometimes, we don’t even mean to do it; there’s just that sense of awkwardness and distance between you and them. But sometimes you may purposely keep your distance from someone because they aren’t changing to become a better friend. I’ve definitely missed people I used to be close with and wished our friendship was still intact, but sometimes it’s for the best because they couldn’t be the friend you needed or deserved.
“Everything will be okay, if it’s not okay, it’s not the end”- Unknown
When we worry about certain things, 9 times out of 10, they usually work themselves out, and we realize we overreacted and had nothing to worry about. Life moves on! No one will remember that one time two years ago when you failed a test or when you told a joke and no one laughed. I think the best advice is to realize that everyone is too busy worrying about their own embarrassment and anxiousness to pay attention to yours. Of course, there will always be those people who gossip about others, but usually, they are the ones who are trying to make themselves feel better about their own situations. This quote should encourage you to keep a positive outlook on life and stay optimistic that everything will be okay in the end, and if it’s not okay, It’s. Not. The. End!
“All due respect, sometimes no respect is due”- SZA
You may have seen this quote on TikTok, as it has become largely popularized and even added to audios people use for their videos! What I take away from this is that we don’t always have to be the “bigger person” and walk away from an argument or disagreement. Don’t let someone walk all over you; stand up for yourself, and use your voice.
