Management Communication
Customer Interactions
Team Building
A huge part of my role is communicating with other parts of the management team. I often make notes throughout my shift and leave a note or send a message letting the opening manager know what did and didn't get done. Doing this ensures that the day flows smoothly and everything gets completed.
A big part of Andy's Culture is quality interactions between staff and customers. At Andy's, we use a tablet and go outside to take customers' orders, and we've grown to love this part of the job. Talking to people face to face instead of through a speaker has helped me expand my social skills and feel more comfortable talking to new people.
Having a strong team leads to success, and much of that comes with communication. Communication is important because it ensures a good shift and helps solve problems quickly. Without a friendly team, work can be dreadful and often not enjoyable.
Academic Skills - Math
Counting Tills & Safe
Labor Control
At the end of the night, it's very important to make sure that the drawers have the correct amount of money. Math is implemented by taking out the deposit amount and checking to see if there is $150 left in the drawer. If the drawer is over $150, then you put the money into tips, and if the money is under $150, you have to track where the money went or take from tips.
Controlling Labor is a huge thing I have to think about during shifts. When calling people in and giving breaks, I have to think about how busy we will be and how much each person is being paid. Math is implemented through percentages and calculating the labor percentage each night based on the number of people working that night.
Academic Skills - Technology
Order Monitor
Checklist
These monitors are crucial when working in food, and learning how they work has been essential for me. Oftentimes it will disconnect (Like the Photo) or blue screen. Learning how to fix the monitor in an orderly fashion and being able to still make orders have been big takeaways for me.
Shift checklists are extremely important in a workplace because they ensure that everything is getting done. We have 3 main checklists during the day, with other specialized ones throughout the week. Having technology like this can smooth out closing tasks and limit communication issues.

GroupMe
Written Checklist
A workplace group chat is essential for relaying important information. We use the group chat for important information about new treat rollouts, covering shifts, and other important announcements. This has helped build our team closer and helps with a constant place where data is stored.
Written checklists are extremely important for us because we have to delegate tasks to people, and having them written makes the process much faster. This limits confusion about what needs to be done and who is doing what.
Information Management
Drain Checklist Submission Time
The floor drain checklist is a very important task that needs to be done well every week; however, the time for which it's due is very tight. The checklist is due at 9 PM, which is our busiest hour, so it's hard to get to sometimes. If it were due later, it would help us be more efficient and thorough throughout the cleaning process.
Accountability & Goals
Initiative & Self-Direction
Goals & Priorities
I am solely responsible for doing paperwork, training new hires, and pressure washing. As a manager, it's important to keep all of our paperwork sorted, so I take care of par sheets and employee filing. Training is a large part of my job, especially before summer, because of the influx of new hires. Finally, I pressure wash the store twice a week, but during summer, it switches to twice a week. I oftentimes try to learn all the admin stuff and basic store maintenance so I can fix it fast rather than having to wait.
During the week, I close 6 nights out of the 7, so I delegate cleaning tasks throughout the week. That way, we can get a lot accomplished while still doing it the right way because it's not rushed. Whenever we have a store audit, we spend a lot of time planning on what we can improve on and spend the weeks following improving, and it has helped improve our store.
Cultural Awareness
Joe - ASL
Haleigh - Spanish
Joe is one of our assistant general managers and the nicest person. A special quirk about Joe is his ability to communicate with guests through ASL. Knowing ASL is culturally aware because it provides access to Deaf culture and its unique communication practices. Learning ASL allows individuals to engage with the Deaf community, understand their experiences, and appreciate their rich history and traditions. This immersion fosters empathy and breaks down communication barriers, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive society
Haleigh is our General Manager and only speaks English at work. While at home, she speaks Spanish, and it's proved very useful when communicating at work. Knowing Spanish contributes to cultural awareness by opening a window into the diverse traditions, values, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking communities. This includes understanding the history, beliefs, and social norms of countries where Spanish is the official language, like Spain and many countries in Latin America. It also allows for more effective communication and intercultural understanding, which is crucial in our increasingly globalized world.
