PEACE

PEACE: A COMMITMENT, AN ACHIEVEMENT

Students: Lila Chaves and Sofia Oliveira

Peace has many different forms and means something different to everyone. For this reason, when choosing our project, we wanted to display all possible interpretations of peace by creating a mosaic peace wall. We titled our artwork, “Pieces of Peace” and we asked our community to contribute to this wall by giving them the prompt, “What does peace mean to you?” We involved all students at Hudson High School and various businesses meaningful to our town. We designed the wall with a globe and the word peace written across the mural. We chose a globe because it represents the diversity of the people included in the project and we chose the letters to represent the nuances of the word peace. To make it a mosaic, the letters in the word peace were cut up for each classroom and given to all Hudson High School students to decorate with their ideas of peace. The continents were also cut up and distributed to community businesses for the same purpose. For our activity at the UNESCO conference, we plan to have participants decorate pieces of the continents to provide a more global interpretation of peace. Each piece will be glued on recycled plywood to form the image below, and the finished artwork will be exhibited in our town. Through our project we intended to display peace through our mosaic but we found that the biggest display of peace was the collaboration and support we received from classmates and members of Hudson.
