I have been part of the following extracurricular experiences; I have been part of the Locke High School Soccer team since I was in 9th grade during this time I was in the JV team and I was able to play as forward. During my 10th grade I was able to move up to the Varsity team but I was kicked out since I did not have the GPA required, this was very frustrating to me but I was able to realize that my grades mattered and that made me want to get better grades for the following season. During the 11th grade I was in the Varsity team and I was left defence, this year I made sure I had good grades and I played for the entire season. Now in my 12th grade, the season got cancelled because of the pandemic that is occurring right now. The CIF decided that season will be played this year but not until February. Since the CIF announced that there will be a season I have been running so I can get conditioned.

Also I have been working with my older brother making sure that pallets were correctly made. In that job I only work on Saturdays from 6am to 3pm. My job was to take out the parts of the pallets that were in a bad condition and put parts that were in a better condition. It was an easy job when I knew what I had to do. Now I am working in a company where my brother works. My job in that company is to unload containers, the work can be difficult or easy depending on how many boxes does the container have or if it comes in order, there are containers that have many different styles like XS, SM, L,XL when it comes like that I have to be careful to not mixed them, each of those styles have different quantities and at the end they can not be mixed. We make pallets of certain quantities depending on the size of the boxes; sometimes it is 68 or 96 boxes that we put in a pallet. The container is 40ft or 45ft long and it takes 4-5 hours to fill the pallet-up. In this job I work on Fridays from 1pm to 6pm and Saturdays from 6am to 6pm. I get paid depending on how many containers I finish in those days. The reason why I work is because I want to help my family with their expenses, especially mother and brother.

I would like to attend college because I want to have a good career and a good future not just for me but also for my family. I would also love to play soccer for the college and have that experience. I know it could be difficult to play soccer because there are so many levels and the competition there is pretty intense, but I feel ready for it. I know that if I go to college I will have better opportunities for my future. My personal goal when I get to college is first to do my best in all of my classes and get good grades. School experiences have motivated me to attend college, I feel I can do really well in college if I put the effort that is necessary to succeed. I have attended middle school and High school in the United States and on both of those I have heard from my teachers how important it is to attend college. There are particular circumstances that motivate me to attend college and those circumstances are that some of my teachers talk to me about how college makes you different and give you better opportunities in this country for example to get great jobs here, also they tell me how college may be more exigent than high school is. They told me how professors will be so much more exigent in college classes. My family is another particular circumstance that motivates me to attend college, since I was a child my family has told me that studying is the most important thing because people that focus on their studies get better opportunities than others. Finally my last motivation to attend college is to think on how my family had struggled for not being in a good economic situation. Getting a good career would be the best option for me to help my family with their economical situation. I would like for my family to stop struggling and not be worried about paying rent, bills and all other expenses. I may be the first one graduating from my family and I will make them proud of me. That is my strongest motivation to see my family proud of me.

I lived in Mexico until the age of 12 in december of 2015 we all decided that it was time to look for a better life. My dad was a police officer but he did not live with us since I was born, so he would send us $2,500 pesos every 15 days, but that was not sufficient for a family of 6. Mom did not just have to pay the house expenses but she also had to buy school supplies and that was so difficult since it was not enough. I missed my 6th grade graduation because my mom did not have the money to buy my cap and gown. My mom received a call and it was my aunt from Texas and she told her that we can try and go ask for political asylum. We all made the decision to leave Mexico to try a new life. We traveled to Tijuana only with the essentials. We entered the border line of Tijuana and my mom started to tell the officers what we were there for, after a while they took us to a waiting room where we were for 5 days waiting. After those days they told us that we did get the political asylum. Some officers took us to the bus Station of San Diego then we traveled to Los Angeles to Texas. Our stay at Texas was good because of the support of our aunt for two months. Later we came to California again to live with an uncle of my mom, for a short time. After 2-3 months of us struggling In Indio we traveled to Los Angeles California where we stayed at a hotel until we found an apartment. After almost a month we found an apartment. My mother and brother were the main providers and later my older sister had to leave school to work. My other sister and I were the only two studying. We lived together for a while, until my older brother left the apartment and went to live with his partner, since then things became difficult to pay rent and bills.

My mom told us that she was going to bring her partner to the apartment. We thought that it would become easier to pay the expenses, but my mom’s partner would not give her any money for rent so it was difficult to pay for rent. The rent would be paid late so they told us that we have to leave so we had to move to a hotel again. My sister decided to live with my other sister and rent something where they could afford. I had to go with my brother and his partner and my mom also rented something apart from us.That was so hard for me because we have been together through everything and it hurts that we were not together. Until now we have not lived together for two years, I understand that it was the best.

My mom talked to us then we all made the decision to leave Mexico to try a new life far from Mexico. Our stancy at Texas was good because of the support of our aunt, after two months we traveled to Indio California with an uncle of my mom. It was a short time also where my sisters and I were studying and my mom and older brother were working. After 2-3 months of us struggling In Indio we traveled to Los Angeles California where we stayed at a hotel until we found an apartment or house to live in. After almost a month we found an apartment then we moved. My older sister had to leave school and start to work so she could help pay the rent with my mom and older brother. My other sister and I were the only two studying. At first it was all good without any problem. We all were together without any problems, until my older brother left the apartment and went with his partner to live. Since my brother left it has become difficult for my mom and sister to pay rent and bills. One day my mom came from work and told us that she was going to bring his partner to the apartment, we told her that it was okay just that we want to see her happy. Also we think that it would become easier to pay the rent for them, but what we did not think was that my mom’s partner would not give my mom money to pay the rent so sometimes she would not complete the amount that was necessary. Because of that the rent would be paid like 1 or 2 weeks late and that does not like to the managers, so they told us that we have to leave and they give us time to look for a place to leave but we did not found any place so we had to move to a hotel again for some time. After 2-3 weeks we found a house this time where the rent was a lot more expensive than the one in the apartament, it was some around 2,500 dollars and that would be divided in 3 by my mom,his partner and my sister. But again after just 2 months my mom was not working and she did not receive money from his partner again. They just have the part of my sister that was not sufficient to pay. This time my sister do not wait for them to get out of the house she just decide to leave with my other sister and rent something were they could pay rent and live they both along, in my case I have to go with my brother and his partner to leave with them and my mom also rented something apart of us. That part was so hard for me because we have been together through everything and it hurts that we were not going to be together. Until now we have not been living together for two years but as time goes I understand that it was the best option for us. Even now I have to work sometimes friday and Saturday so I could help my brother.

I would describe myself as a person that knows exactly what he wants no matter what it takes to get it. I will do whatever it takes to have what I have always wanted, In order to achieve that I knew it would not be easy, but with hard work and trust in myself everything is possible. I will also describe myself as a hard worker. I remember that when I was like 10 years I had always been doing something to get money, everyday members of my family like my aunts and cousins and also other people who lived near us always told me to go to the store and they asked me to bring them things they needed like sodas,tortillas and many more things. When I did that they always gave me money. Sometimes they give me 8,10 or even more pesos, with that money I buy snacks or even food for myself. Also I was doing similar the last couple months. This time I was cleaning the yard from my brother's house, I did not clean it everyday. It was like 2 or 3 days after the last one. My brother gave me $40 dollars every week. Additional information about me is that I have always liked being at home and going out as little as possible, I prefer to be at home watching sports and not being away from home. For example on a saturday my friends invite me to a party which I decide to not go because I was watching soccer games on the TV. Another similar example of this was when all my family went to Hollywood, but I decided to stay home watching a soccer final from Mexico which I had been waiting for a long time. Watching any type of sports is my favorite thing to do obviously after spending time with my family. Also things that I do and want to do are for my family. I want to help them as much as I can. I want a good future for me and my family.
