Despite making up more than half of journalists in the world, women are underrepresented as editors and general leaders in journalism, meaning that their voices are, by extension, unheard in the news industry because it remains dominated by men. Because these leadership roles do not allow for women to be heard and advocated for, the media being published and mass produced does not reflect the voices of its majority women journalists, who often face hostility because of a lack of support from the “male-led structure of news organizations”. Due to this, Pretty Pretty Press aims to create an environment for women to take charge and decide the narrative they would like to perpetuate in their articles and pieces, making sure that the writers’ ideas and beliefs are accurately represented by their leadership.
Pretty Pretty Press aims to create a supportive community of creative-minded people, whether they be writers, journalists, or artists. We look to empower self-discovery and self-expression in a judgment free space. Pretty Pretty Press is an independent news and literary organization that is run by a group of creative teenage girls in the San Fernando Valley. We look to cover stories and ideas that interest young women, commenting on the ways feminism interacts with our daily lives. We want to create a legacy of community-engaged reporting and writing, and practice community-building through our magazine.
