We can provide in-depth academic support for all levels (maths modified all the way to maths specialised). Depending on your goals, a session can range from supervised quiet study (such as completing practice exams) to active one-on-one guidance to clarify complex concepts. We simply ask that you bring relevant resources—like homework or textbook questions—so your mentor can understand your specific requirements and help you build confidence in your learning
We can provide support to all main science areas (with the exception of TCE Bio 2&3, Chem 4 and Phys 4) to build your confidence and help you work through academic challenges. Sessions range from supervised quiet study—such as completing homework or practise tests—to active guidance where a mentor helps clarify complex scientific topics. We simply ask that you bring relevant resources, such as your current worksheets, homework or revision material, so your mentor can understand your specific requirements and help you prepare effectively
Our english sessions are designed to be flexible and can be undertaken by all students. We can provide feedback and constructive criticism on written drafts and give editing support. Additionally, mentors are available to serve as an audience for presentation rehearsals, providing tips on delivery and content. To ensure a productive session, please bring any relevant texts, assignment criteria, or current drafts to your meeting.
Our humanities mentoring sessions are specifically aimed at students in Grades 9 and 10 looking to sharpen their writing and historical understanding. We offer a collaborative space where we can provide feedback and constructive criticism on your drafts, help with editing, or even assist you in recalling key facts using flashcards. If you have an upcoming presentation, we can act as your practice audience to help you polish your delivery. We’re also happy to help you unpack and explain historical concepts so you feel confident for your next assessment. To make the most of our time, please bring your texts, rubrics, or drafts to the session.
Our mentors are here to help all Senior School students build confidence in their language journey. Since our mentors are fellow current learners (Chinese, Japanese, German and French), these sessions provide a relaxed and relatable space to practice together. We can spend time practising conversation, listening to native-language podcasts and videos, or reading books to improve your fluency. Just let us know in your application what you'd like to focus on so we can plan the best activities for you!
Yes! The Friends’ School Mentoring Program is a welcoming and inclusive initiative open to all students on the Senior School campus. Whether you are in Year 9 or Year 12, our assistance is available to anyone who believes it would be of benefit to their learning. We offer specialized support in Maths and Science for advanced classes and provide a safe, professional environment for peer-to-peer collaboration. These sessions are an excellent opportunity for older students to work together, share expertise, and offer constructive criticism on complex projects. Our goal is to support the entire community, so please don't hesitate to book a session!
Yes, of course. While our program is designed to provide one-on-one assistance, we are happy to accommodate you and a friend in a collaborative setting. Please be aware, however, that group sessions can sometimes be less productive than individual ones. To ensure everyone gets the most out of the session, we ask that you and your friend remain focused on your study goals so your mentor can provide the best possible support.
Currently, the Friends' School Mentoring Program is exclusive to students on the Senior School campus. To ensure the project is achievable and self-sustaining, we are focusing our initial efforts on establishing the service for Grades 9 and 10 (and older grades on request). However, we are eager to explore expanding the program to other campuses as we grow. We highly value student interest and feedback, which will help us determine how to best support the wider school community in the future.
While we provide a weekly Google Sheet as a general representation of our free time, we offer significant flexibility beyond those hours. If you are interested in a session but don't see a matching slot, we encourage you to submit an application anyway. We are often able to incorporate mentoring into the school day during recess, lunch and possibly long tutor sessions. Additionally, students in Years 11 and 12 are encouraged to include their free periods on the application form, as we would gladly coordinate sessions during these times to support your senior studies. Our team will review every request to find a time that works for everyone!
