About the Internship
In January 2024, I began my internship at the Care Center in Holyoke, a center dedicated to allowing young mothers and low-income women to pursue and finish higher education. As the Poetry/Literature intern, I worked alongside faculty and staff to create a basis for the 2024 issue of "Nautilus II", a magazine highlighting student poetry and writing done throughout the year. I assisted in various clerical work such as document formatting, organization, and collaboration for both classroom readiness and meetings.

Experience Analysis
During my time at the Care Center in Holyoke, I gained valuable insight and introduction into editorial work. My witness of the behind the scenes of creating, running and collaborating with the Editorial Board helped prepare me. From copy-editing, voting, submission managing, and collaborating with others, I gained a better understanding of the things I may encounter in the publishing industry. While not the primary focus of my internship, I also gained a better understanding and much more empathy for young mothers and low-income women.
