In linguistics, an extinct language is one that no longer has any first generation or second generation speakers. The diversity of languages has become endangered, and linguists estimate that "at least half the world's languages will become extinct in the next one hundred years" (Armstrong). Linguists worry of the rate in which these languages are becoming extinct, and the effects this has on our society. It is becoming more common to see a native language being overshadowed by a countries main tongue, which is forcing us to understand how to fix this before it worsens in the future.
