Dear sub,
Thank you for being subbing for Host Nation 1 this week. Below you will find a copy of the HN 1 schedule.
Just a friendly reminder, in the cubby, under the teacher desk, there is a folder with different accommodations to ensure a safe learning environment and provide a better outlook of the different grade levels of the day. For a better understanding we encourage to take a look. As it is confidential, please put the documents back after reading them. Thank you for your hard work! DANKE!
Today we are introducing the topic German Brotzeit.
The Germans love a good compound word, and Brotzeit is no exception:
Brod (bread) + Zeit (time) = Bread time
Brotzeit is a traditional savory cold snack enjoyed in the whole country, original from Bayern (Bavaria).
Brotzeit is so beloved in Germany, that there is even a special tea just for the meal!
When asking Germans about Brotzeit, some may claim that Brotzeit is sort of a lazy meal if you do not feel like cooking. However when you get to know more about the delicious different combinations you will find it ¨wunderbar¨(wonderful).
A Brotzeit spread with ham, cheese, radishes, pickles, bread and butter
Large, soft bretzels
Scheibe Brot (preferably dark style bread like Fitbrot)
Kräuterbutter also known as Würzbutter (butter with herbs)
Senf (sweet mustard)
Schinken (Ham)
Schwarzwälder Schinken (Black forest cured ham)
Leberkäse
Käse (cheese)
Saure Gurke (Pickles)
Radieschen (radishes)
Brötchen mit Zwiebelmettwurst
Gebackene Käsekartoffeln

It is a delicious feast and so fun to graze and eat! Brotzeit always pairs well with an Orangina, a sparkling orange juice, or also for grown-ups with a dry German Riesling or lager beer.
German Brotzeit can be considered the exquisite equivalent of a hamburger for an US citizen.
As we mentioned before Brotzeit is traditional from...? Yes, Bayern (Bavaria). In Bavaria every year it takes place the most important volkfest in Germany, Oktoberfest. Let´s watch how to prepare a traditional Brotzeit Oktoberfest-style!
You may have learnt today about Brotzeit, but did you know in many houses Abendbrot is also very popular (for dinner). Discover why!
Have a look at the vocabulary words and repeat them with your teacher!
I hope you had a successful funny day today.
Schönen Feierabend!
