For DoDEA students, the implementation of College and Career Ready Standards in the areas of mathematics sets a foundation for even greater student success and growth. The College and Career Ready Standards (CCRS), based in large part on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), set grade-by-grade learning expectations for students in grades K-12. This supports a cohesive education for the highly-mobile military-connected student. These Standards define what students should understand and be able to do in their study of mathematics. Mathematical understanding and procedural skill are equally important, and both are assessable using mathematical tasks of sufficient richness.
According to the PK-12 Framework Guidance Document, teachers should use the provided Unit Frameworks to collaboratively plan for instruction as these contain the detailed and coherent scope and sequence of standards. Teachers should also implement the identified common CEPA for each unit. GoMath! materials serve as a primary instructional resource and are to be used to help educators make sound instructional decisions on a day-to-day basis. It is not, however, intended to dictate how to teach. Though every lesson may be listed, this does not imply that all lessons should be taught as prescribed by the instructional resource.
