Hello NES Parents,
It has been our pleasure to educate your children this school year. Your children have worked hard, matured a great deal and we are so proud of them. 6th grade will be receiving a great group of students.
For this week, we will have our bowling celebration on Monday morning. We will eat lunch and snack at the school.
On Tuesday, we will hold our awards ceremony for honor roll students at 9:15am in the cafeteria. We look forward to celebrating your child's accomplishments this quarter. Hello NES Parents,
We hope everyone is staying well and enjoying the children being back in school. We would like to touch base with you all and inform you of what’s been going on in the classroom.
First, for ELA we have begun Unit 1. We are discussing the constitution and why laws need to evolve. Every story we read in this unit leads us back to the question of why laws need to evolve and I am already enjoying the conversations we’ve been having as a class as there are many different perspectives to be shared. For writing, we are learning about the components needed to write a personal letter. We are also beginning to explore phonics with review of short vowel sounds. Your child should have come home with their list of spelling words to study as their first spelling assessment will be this Friday. There will be a spelling test every week.
Next, in Math, we are learning about Volume. Your child is having to apply skills from 4th grade (multiplication and division) in order to use the volume formulas (length x width x height AND Base x height). They are finding the volume of rectangular prisms and composite shapes. The lessons on composite shapes have shown to be quite challenging thus far but we will continue practicing the rest of this week. The math assessment on volume will take place next Tuesday.
Also, for Science, we are learning about Life Systems where students are having to recreate the habitat of a red worm and attempt to create an environment where the worms will multiply by the end of this unit (8 weeks).
Lastly, in regard to life/study skills, your child has begin filling in their agenda books. If you have not purchased one yet, please see the link below for the PTA store. They will deliver the purchased agenda books on Friday.
