I grew up in Cody, Wyoming. I then went to the University of New Hampshire for undergraduate, in Biochemistry, and graduate school for science teaching. I taught physical science in 9th grade for two years in Manchester, NH and then moved back out west. I taught physical science in 8th grade for eight years in Livingston, Montana. I started teaching for DoDDS in 2003 and have started my 19th year at Kinnick High School. I teach physics, chemistry, AP physics and AP chemistry.
I have two kiddos, a boy who is 15 and a girl who is 13. We commute to Yokosuka by train every day which takes 37 minutes and then it is a nice 22 minute walk to school.
I enjoy outdoor pursuits such as hiking, backpacking, caving and rock climbing, although I haven't had much time for any of these recently.
I like to go to concerts in Tokyo. I see a band just about every month on average. My favorite music is progressive metal, heavy metal, rock and progressive rock.
I believe students learn most effectively by experiencing science first hand. Therefore, I like for students to be actively engaged completing activities, problem solving and in hands-on investigations. I hope you will enjoy learning about the amazing topics within chemistry and physics this year.
