New Student On-boarding
The transition program delivers four one-hour sessions once a week (every Wednesday/Thursday- whichever is a B day) every month for new students or when needed. Sessions will take place during school hours (advisory period). Each new student should attend all four sessions within his/her first month. When possible, transition coordinator trains and delegates delivery of sessions to student ambassadors.
Below details what will be discussed during each weekly session:
First Wednesday/Thursday of the month
SESSION 1: About Our School (School Counselors + Student Ambassadors)
Campus life: school map and places, school rules, dress code, seminar/advisory, bell schedule, calendar, welcome packet.
Getting involved in extra-curricular activities on and off campus
High school credit options at middle school
Resources available to new students (transition program website, student ambassadors, transition coordinator, community-CYS)
Second Wednesday/Thursday of the month
SESSION 2: Learning the Local Culture (Student Ambassadors)
Brief history of the area and the base, how to say basic things in the local language, stereotypes and misconceptions
Places to go to try local food, snacks to try
Safety/security briefing
How to be a good Ambassador for the USA
Small trip out the gate of the base as a group (optional if possible, e.g. walking tour).
Third Wednesday/Thursday of the month
SESSION 3: Support Services (ASACS/MFLC/ACS)
Navigating the stressors of a PCS move (Teen Transitions ppt)
Coping skills to work through stress (Teen Transitions ppt)
Time management and organizational skills (Time Management/Organizational Skills ppt)
Discuss any concerns since the last PCS move (MFLC)

Fourth Wednesday/Thursday of the month
SESSION 4: College and Career Readiness (School Counselors + Ambassadors)
Conduct interest inventory
Choices 360 and planning for college and careers
