Beginning of Year Assessment Information
For SY 2020-2021, DoDEA has added beginning-of-year (BOY) assessments for literacy and math. While this information has been sent out via monthly assessment bulletins in weekly packets and is available on the DoDEA Website, we wanted to remind you of the expectations and capture the vital information and resources in a single place.
Summary of Assessments
Literacy:
· K-5: Reading Proficiency Tool (Oral reading Record): only in person
· 6-10: ELA/Literacy Practice Assessment Unit 1: Digital (administered either in person or remote)
Mathematics:
· 1-5: HQ-developed Unit 1 Check-ins: Digital/Paper (administered either in person or remote)
· 6-8, ALG I, GEO, ALG 2: Math BoY Assessments Edulastic Tests): Digital (administered either in person or remote)
Trainings
· Teachers administering BoY for 6-10 literacy or mathematics will complete two trainings:
o Phase 1: Administering the BoY Assessments, which needs to be completed prior to administering the BoY Assessments
o Phase 2: Using the data from the BoY assessments to guide decisions and instruction
· Teachers needing to complete the BoY assessments will be given time during a Focused Collaboration Session.
Teachers should complete the first BoY training prior to administering the assessments and no later than COB on Tuesday, 8 September.
