This is the robot that Skyler and I made.

this is a video of our latest robot version doing its task of picking up lunar regolith (sand) to take it back to base for sampling.

Our job was to find a solution to a problem relating lunar soil and the artemis program.

The artemis mission is one of nasa's relatively new project started in 2017. Its objective is to land people and make a permanent base on the moon to launch spaceships from, to expand further into space.

For the problem we were trying to solve we chose to try to solve the problem of sampling different areas for possible minerals/materials.

For our solution we chose to make a large vehicle with a drill on the back to drill up a small sample and take it back to homebase. However the drill idea ended up not being what we stuck with because we ran out of time.

At the end of the project I learned a lot about lunar regolith and even the different types of regoliths from different moons or planets. I learned how moondust is very sharp whereas mars dust is very fine. the mars sky is red because of the red colored regolith. On Titan there are mounds of regolith hundreds of meters high and thousands of kilometers long in sand like grains. Even asteroids have regolith so if there's rocks there's probably regolith.

I had fun working on designing and building the robot and overcoming challenges. One of the hardest challenges was trying to get the drill to work even though in the end the drill didnt work it was still fun trying to make it work. The treads weren't the best but I still learned a lot about how to use treads. The coding wasn't too complicated but it was still annoying throwing it together last minute.
