My favorite assignments in the Zombie Apocalypses quest were probably the various Edpuzzles and the design challenge. The reason why these were my favorites is because (starting off with the design challenge ) it was fun and helped me learn about heat energy transfer between the air and objects. The reason why the Edpuzzles were my favorites is they were fun (also) and because they taught me some things about disease, vaccines, and the history of germ theory. Speaking of disease, vaccines, and the history of Germ Theory why don't I explain one of them in more detail. Germ theory. All the way back in the 1800s scientists had something called the Miasma Theory, it was a theory that said that poisonous clouds of invisible gas caused all diseases. Until the 1840s in the midst of the cholera outbreak in London some people had grown skeptical. Microscopes had revealed the existence of bacteria and proposed that these caused diseases, hence the name germ theory. It didn't change people's minds though. But, Dr.John Snow wanted to prove the world wrong. He noticed that symptoms of cholera were diarrhea and vomiting, gut symptoms not respiratory. After he did some research he was convinced it was coming from contaminated water. When there was another outbreak of cholera, he found that the deaths were concentrated right by the water pump. And recommended that the city shut down the pump. He knew how unpopular Germ Theory so he said that cholera was spread through poison in the water and presented it to city officials. They were unconvinced but shut down the pump anyway. Immediately the cases stopped. After he did some research, he thought that feces caused cholera. So he presented Germ theory but the city officials denied the theory not wanting to suggest that there was excrement in the water of London, or that they were wrong about the original theory (Miasma). It wasn't until 1884 that his work showed some recognition by Dr. Robert Kosh who isolated the cholera bacterium and through experiments.
