Mrs. Linden's Speech News

2020-2021

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Hello, I am Mrs. Patti Linden, the Speech-Language Pathologist at MSE. I wish to welcome all new students and send a sincere welcome back to all returning students.

This is my sixth year in the Boyertown Area School District, but I am not new to Speech Therapy. I bring to you almost 40 years of experience as a Licensed and Certified Speech Pathologist, Certified Teacher of the Hearing Impaired, and a Licensed Registered Nurse. I have worked with all ages from preschool to adults in a variety of settings.

Your child will no longer receive a Speech Folder from me, however I may assign homework to be worked on several times each week depending on your child’s goals. Please provide a folder for your child so that he/she has a place to keep homework. This folder should travel home and back to school daily. I will also begin to post general/generic homework on my website for articulation and language skills which can be used to supplement homework that is in your child’s folder, or be used as additional practice. This is a new process for me, so keep checking back as I learn how to do this!

Please keep in mind that we speak and interact all of the time, so carrying out skills at every opportunity is crucial to having your child learn to carry over his/her skills. I ask you to keep this in your forethoughts and seize opportunities daily. Let’s get these goals mastered!

Since there is no grade given for therapy, a point system is being initiated for my students. Students who come to Speech Therapy independently and on time will receive 1 raffle ticket (I will accompany new students until they are able to come independently). Students who come prepared with their Speech homework and their SSR book will receive 1 ticket for a possible total of 2 tickets each session. There will be a drawing at the end of each marking period for a gift card prize (yet to be determined-but I welcome ideas!).

After a grace period of 3-4 cycles, students are expected to independently come for their scheduled session. If a student misses his/her assigned Speech Therapy time an "Oops slip" will be sent to the student via his/her homeroom teacher as a reminder. If a student accumulates a total of 3 "Oops slips", the child will serve a lunch detention after which the count refreshes to zero.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions, comments, or concerns that you may have. I see us as a team to help your child be the best communicator that he/she can be! You can either call me at 610-473-3905 or email me at plinden@boyertownasd.org and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I look forward to working with you and your child this year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Linden
