Both concerts will be held at Middle School West at 7:00 p.m.
WES Chorus is optional for 4th and 5th grade students! Chorus meets once a week during the school day on day one. Students who like to sing should join chorus!
Guidelines: Chorus is different than general music class as we work only on choral pieces - mostly, we sing! Proper behavior and concert etiquette is expected of each student so that the group can rehearse and perform to the best of its ability.
Chorus Shirts: Each student will wear their Washington Chorus T-shirt from the PTO during performances. Just as sports teams wear uniforms, these T-shirts are an affordable way to bring unity to our group.
Concert dress: WES shirt, black bottoms (pants, skirt, leggings), and nice shoes.
Attendance: Chorus members must attend both concerts. I understand that many students are involved in after school activities such as baseball and scouts which take place every week; however, we ask you to commit your child to these 2 concert dates, December 12 and April 15 which are once-in-a-lifetime events. (Please avoid scheduling your child for an appointment on the day of the concert if possible, as we will have rehearsals and an assembly that day!)
Tryouts: Students will be asked to sing “America” (“My Country ‘Tis of Thee”). Tryouts are held in a separate room from the rest of the class. The purpose of this audition is to help me get to know the children's voices, split students two parts, and select students for "Vocal Ensemble,” otherwise known as "Bearly" In Tune.
Ensemble: This group consists of 28-36 4th and 5th graders who are musically advanced and are capable of singing more challenging music. Ensemble meets on Tuesdays during recess, and may require two after school rehearsals, one in December, and one in March. Ensemble students are ALSO in chorus. Ensemble is selected through the tryouts.
