What is the ELA curriculum?
The seventh grade English/Language Arts curriculum reflects the requirements of the PA Common Core standards.
The program is designed to familiarize the seventh grader with all aspects of the language arts, specifically the development of critical strategies in reading and writing. The instructional approach entails a heavy emphasis on fundamentals in literature, mechanics, and composition coupled with word attack skills, vocabulary development, and specific comprehension skills through teacher and student selected texts.
What will I do in ELA class?
ELA class is comprised of two 40 minute class periods back to back. During this time, students will experience the reading/writing approach to learning. Classes will often begin with a mini lesson pertaining to a grammar, vocabulary, or writing skill. Students will practice the skill through independent, partner, or whole group activities. Further independent practice will occur in the form of independent work.
