Hi! I'm John McCurdy, a freshman in journalism for my first year - but it's hard to gauge when I really started being a journalist. I've always had a love for writing, dating back to my fourth grade self-run publication The Schuler Weekly. I find my favorite part of journalism hard to narrow down, but I enjoy digging deep into research and learning more about people while expanding my writing skills.
I have covered school board policy, student protests and written opinion research pieces. Oftentimes I can be seen with a notebook and tape recorder at AHS School Board meetings or at community events and parades.
A "Best of Student Newspapers Online" deep-dive into a recently terminated employees role. The article's publishing resulted in the most viewed day in recorded AHS Needle site analytics.
A guide to what students can and cannot do to make their voice heard in school.
An editorial research article into the role social media plays in our lives and in the tragic events that disrupt them.
An opinion oiece exploring the joys of Christmas in the my small town.
My first article detailing an insightful visit to UNO's Samuel Bak Museum.
