1970s and 1980s: Disability Rights Movement took off.
They took inspiration from the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.
1973: Rehabilitation Act passed, making it easier for people with disabilities to seek employment.
1990: Americans with Disabilities Act is passed.
2009: AFL-CIO recognized and promised to ensure that people with disabilities would be given fair treatment during union negotiations.
