Hollywood: Hollywood sign

Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood Sign is an iconic symbol of Hollywood. It has been sitting atop Mount Lee in 1923!!! During the 1960s, Hollywood suffered through a mass exodus of residents to the suburban San Fernando Valley. Even more distressing was the flight of film power centers to the Valley and other less cramped environs. By 1970, Paramount was the only studio left in town. And for the sign, it was far more worse than that. During the 60's, Hollywood turned into a place of corruption. As well as that, Hollywood’s once-proud emblem now served as a glaring badge of dis-honor – rusted, dilapidated, soon to literally crumble under its own weight. Add on, the top of the "D" and the whole third "O" w=fell toppling down Mount Lee and some time later, an arsonist burned down the bottom of the second "L". And again, in the late 70's, a few pranksters made the Hollywood sign read Hollyweed instead of Hollywood. It looked like the end for the Hollywood sign. In 1977, Hugh Hefner came to the rescue. He funded the money and the Hollywood sign was reborn. And it has been in the same way since.
