FRESHMAN
My experience in Video Production I was both rewarding and eye-opening, allowing me to explore different aspects of filmmaking while growing creatively and technically. From learning the basics of camera operation to understanding the importance of storytelling, I gained a deeper appreciation for the collaborative nature of video production. One of the most memorable projects I worked on was The Hidden Struggle, a PSA about opioid awareness. Not only did this project challenge me to think deeply about a serious issue, but it also gave me the opportunity to help with editing and planning shots, which ultimately led to our piece being selected for Teen Arts; a proud moment that validated our hard work and creative vision.
Throughout the course, I also developed as a storyteller and team member by working on a variety of projects. In Soul Swap, a body swap scene, I got to experiment with both acting and directing, which helped me understand the importance of continuity and performance. The 10-Day Film Challenge pushed me creatively under pressure as we created a Film Noir short called Twisted Lies, where I helped with writing and camera work. Lastly, in Voice of the People, I took on the role of interviewer and editor, crafting a piece that explored how celebrities influence society. Each project taught me something new, from the power of visual composition to the impact of sound design, and by the end of the course, I felt more confident in both my technical skills and my ability to express ideas through film.

Video Production II has been creative and hands-on, helping me understand the work that goes into building a finished media project. One of my biggest accomplishments was working on a Billie Eilish music video for "The 30th," where I focused on pacing, mood, and visual storytelling to match the song's tone. It was a meaningful project for me because it pushed me to be more intentional with editing choices and overall structure. Seeing it accepted for showcase at both the Teen Arts County and State levels was a major milestone, as it showed that my work could stand out beyond the classroom and be recognized in a competitive setting.
Another major experience was directing my dating comedy show, Match Made Mayhem, where we worked in a multi-camera studio set-up in our auditorium. We treated the space like a professional production environment, using real cameras, audio equipment, and lighting while coordinating everything like a live show with sets and props. This project taught me how important teamwork, timing, and communication are when working in a fast-paced production setting. Being in Video Production II this year has helped me build confidence in my technical skills and understand what it takes to create polished, professional-style media.
