Director's Note

Thank you for joining us for tonight's production of "Pippin". With every show I learn so much. I was in the ensemble of "Pippin" a time long ago. More years than I want to admit. This is the show where I learned how important every part is to a production. At this point in my career, I was used to being cast in to large parts. I had a hard time when the director cast me in the ensemble. I thought that I had moved past ensemble parts and I was unsure I was going to take the role. After talking to my director, Brian Terrell, I realized that I had the wrong perspective when creating musical theatre art. The production is not only about the lead role, but everyone involved is crucial to the show's success. I let my inflated ego distract me from what was really important: telling a story. I accepted the part and it might have been one of the best experiences of my career. I'm so grateful that I didn't let my ego get in the way of that experience.

I am thrilled to be able to present this show as the director. The story of Pippin is one we all have. We may not fight in wars or be the heir to a throne, but we all have to figure out where is our "Corner of the Sky". Answering the age old questions: Who am I? What do I want to do? How do I want to spend my life? Who do I want to live my life with? How do I want to be remembered? There is no prescribed map to follow through life so how do we answer these questions? Do we listen to the "Players" we have all around us or do we venture on a path less traveled?

Join us tonight for an incredible journey watching the life of Pippin. I hope you find the music, story, and production as incredible as I do. The students in this production are inspiring! I am so grateful to work with them. They are the future and I can't wait to see what they do!
