New Student Joins Clubs

I am new to Niskayuna High School. I recently moved here from Columbus, Georgia. Last year, I attended Van Antwerp Middle School for about three weeks or so. I got to know a lot of new people. At Van Antwerp, there were kind and friendly people who helped me get around the school without getting lost. I made a few friends, however not many because it was such a short amount of time.

After about three weeks, COVID-19 hit, and we had to quarantine. I thought I was going to school again that school year, so I had the hope that I was going to be seeing my new friends again, but I was wrong. As the pandemic raged on and got worse, we had to stay home. And just like that, I was done with 8th grade. After three weeks of experience, I couldn’t go to Van Antwerp anymore.

After an amazing summer, I was looking forward to going to Niskayuna virtually. High school was a new experience, especially this year. The day before school started, I was nervous, whether everything was going to go perfectly. Fortunately, the day went perfectly. Although I am learning fully virtual, I like my new school. The teachers and students have been amazing.

After a few weeks of school, my mom encouraged me to join some clubs. I didn’t want to do it at first, but finally, I agreed to go to some clubs. I chose to go to the Robotics Club, Chess Club, Science Bowl, and a few more. The first club I attended was Science Bowl. The students there were amazing. They explained everything well with patience, and they were encouraging me to join in and be a part of the group. In Science Bowl, the students practice answering science and math questions, preparing for a competition in March. I liked the club and it was a great way to end the week on Friday afternoons.

In conclusion, I had a great time exploring the clubs at Niskayuna High School. All of the students were loving and kind. If you need recommendations on what clubs to join, I would say go ahead and join Science Bowl, Chess Club, or Robotics Club for great and wonderful experiences. It is definitely worth it, especially if you are a new student.
