To create an abstract art in sketchup you need to start with a base shape.

Give it some width, it will be easier to 3D print. Then, draw some random lines and push or pull them up to different lengths. Finally just use offset and play around with other tools.

Also don't forget to color, use multiple colors it will look nicer that way!
