Blackball Saint Barbie, Watercolor and Pen on Paper, 2018
This artwork explores the idea of how people have this desire to worship something, that shouldn't be worship in the first place. This artwork depicts some animals worshiping Barbie, while a group of girls are protesting against the worship and in the bottom shows a feast among many creatures, which is meant to represent "The Last Supper". This artworks shows a lot of things that at first glance you wouldn't notice until you actually take a closer look. I did this on purpose so that the view keeps on looking trying to find the meaning. Notice how the riot girls are holding up signs with the words, "We shall overcome", a crossed out Barbie logo, and a crossed out women who has plastic surgery lines. This is because Barbie seemed to gain this reputation over her body. Some saying that her unrealistic body gets people insecure and makes people want to maintain that body though surgery, which is why Barbie is naked to show how her body is the most ideal, when we shouldn't put a doll as our beauty standards. This artwork is painted in colorful colors, almost like a box of crayons threw up on it. Although there is a lot of color, I did add some creatures with more darker tones. So it might seem like a happy painting because of the bright colors but the more you look into it the darker it gets.
