Wikipedia is a heavily debated topic. Some strongly believe that Wikipedia has no good sides, and some would break your neck if you insulted their favorite information website. And some couldn’t care less. Members of the Spartan Scroll thought it would be a good idea to find out what Rosemont students think! Below is the web address for a poll with a simple question. Untrustworthy
Many people have different opinions about whether Wikipedia is good or bad. I believe Wikipedia to be bad. When you are researching for a school project, you need a source you can trust, and you cannot put any trust into Wikipedia. It is just not reliable.
Pros And Cons
Wikipedia is pretty much always one of the first websites to pop up anytime you Google something. But that doesn’t mean that Wikipedia is trustworthy. According to Oxford Languages, a wiki is "a website that allows collaborative editing of its content and structure by its users". That means that anybody, whether they actually know the content or not, can go on Wikipedia along with other Wikis, and add information onto the website. Wikipedia can be a good source for summarizing and giving a quick overview of topics, but editors might misinterpret or cherry-pick the facts. Sometimes, people purposely put inaccurate information on Wikipedia as a joke. Even though there are many editors working on Wikipedia every day, content updates rely on how popular the topic is, so some information can be left un-updated for a while. That’s why it’s important to double-check the information before using it. That said, Wikipedia can still be useful for basic, well-known information. Even though everything on Wikipedia may not be correct, most information is. Wikipedia is a handy, quick source that you can use as a starting point.
