Hello, I’m Amber Romano, a 16-year-old currently enrolled in 10th grade at Herbert Hoover High School. I have had the privilege of sharing my home with my three sisters, aged 22, 17, and 11, along with my two uncles for the past eight years. My time is best spent with my family and close friends, and I’ve developed a passion for dance over the last three years, culminating in a recent victory at Nationals as a freshman. As for my aspirations, I am deeply drawn to the idea of becoming a 4th-grade teacher, a dream I’ve dreamt of since childhood and confirmed through my experiences in the "Careers in Education" program. Moving forward, receiving high academic standards is a top priority for me.
Educational/Teaching Philosophy Assignment
We had to write our Teaching Philosophy. I talked about what I expect as myself to provide to my future students.
My emphasis as an educator would be supporting and making sure every student feels comfortable in a classroom. The purpose of education is to make sure every student understands every topic that is covered in class. The purpose of learning is to learn something new every day in class. I want to teach 4th or 5th graders for many reasons. One reason is that they are old enough to express how they are feeling and old enough to ask for help when needed. Another reason is they will still have respect for the teacher because, in Middle and High School, they think they are “cool” and don’t listen to the teacher. That is something I’ll never take from a student in my class. I want to be a teacher because I’ve always looked up to my teachers. My favorite teachers influenced me to want to be a teacher and are the ones who are there for you when you need help. Students learn best when they have a teacher who is willing to help them with anything. This could be a math problem or just having trouble making friends. As a teacher, I’ll make sure to help every student with whatever they need help with. My goal as a teacher is to go home every day knowing all my students understand what was covered in class and feel comfortable talking to a trusted adult (hopefully me). The most effective way to teach students is to let them work with peers. Personally for me, in 4th and 5th grade I had a lot of group projects and it helped me learn faster but in a fun way. In a group, they use each other's knowledge to find out the answers for every topic. I know this because even now I understand more things when I hear different perspectives and get help from my peers. I’ll have a daily check-in with every student making sure they know what is being taught in class. I’ll make sure every student behaves in my class and that they develop and learn from the positive things that I'll provide as a teacher. My top goal as a teacher is to make sure every student learns what is needed and feels comfortable in my class.
For this assignment we took a short test to figure out what our personality is.
What is your personality type?
Consul
What area do you fall under? (Analysts, Diplomats, Sentinels, Explorers)
Sentinel
Summarize what your personality type is like?
Consuls are very caring and social personalities who are always eager to help. They’re attentive and people-focused, happily taking part in their social community and offering guidance.
List 3-4 strengths and 3-4 weaknesses.
Strengths:
Strong practical skills
Very loyal
Good at connecting with others
Weaknesses:
Worried about their social status
Often too needy
Too selfless
What type of a friend are you? How can you use this information to improve or grow your friendships?
Loyal and warm, known for standing by their friends no matter what, and providing a constant source of emotional support and encouragement. I can use this information by making sure I fully take my time with these things to make this information more true about myself.
What careers are best suited for your personality type?
Leading with practical sense and social vigor, the careers they find most satisfying usually revolve around making the best use of these qualities.
What are some of your good and bad workplace habits? What can you do now to work on improving these habits?
Consuls have clear tendencies that show through regardless of their position. Thrive on social order and harmony, use their warmth and social intelligence. Struggle with too much freedom and improvisation. I can work on improvisation and thinking on my feet more.
Overall, how do you feel about your results? Are the results accurate? Why or why not?
I think it is accurate because I do like to be in charge and this personality type fits that very well. I can’t really think on the spot as well and that is a weakness for this personality.
How will you use these results to improve your life or make future life decisions?
I would use this information later on by staying away from jobs that might not be too good for me. Instead staying to jobs that fits my personality. I will also stay away from things where I have to think on my feet because I can’t do that.
Based on the test, what career or careers are you considering?
I still want to be a teacher and see if that will work out. I really don’t care what job I do as long as I can make decisions and take charge of others.
We had to research three jobs we find interesting and these are the three jobs I chose.

Reflection on Your Research:
My research found that teachers aren't paid as much as I thought. I still want to try to be a kindergarten or Elementary teacher, but the salary isn't what I expected. For lawyer, they make 10 times more than I thought, which is good, but it sounds like too much work for me, so I don't think I'll enjoy myself in that course. Physicians and surgeons don’t interest me, so again, I dont think I'll enjoy myself so much.
