We are so glad you asked! Period poverty is defined as "inadequate access to menstrual hygiene tools and education," which we are trying to reverse and eradicate, one student at a time.
Due mostly in part to the Pink Tax, it's come about because of a societal taboo and stigma of our periods.
The Pink Tax is a specially imposed tax on most things targeted towards women. Shampoo, body wash, razors, and, you guessed it, pads & tampons too.
No! E.P was founded as and continues to be a non-profit, meaning you do not have to pay. If you feel like you need to give, though, donations of any kind are welcome!
