Hannah is always willing to help her classmates. Even after Hannah finished her MAPS test, she worked on her group project. Then, when she finished her group project, she asked to work on something for another class to finish it ahead of time. Then, when she still had time left, Hannah gave up her free time to help another student in the hall finish their work. Hannah is a very self-directed learner and a kind person to her classmates. She has great self-direction and sets a great example for her classmates.
Annette Goyne
Mrs. Goyne was born in Maryland, but grew up in Washington D. C. and attended high school there. After high school, Mrs. Goyne attended several places for college. She graduated from American University in Washington D.C., but spent her freshman year at college in southern Virginia, then transferred to American University for her sophomore year. She took a year off to be a nanny for the children of a Washington Post reporter who became the Post’s Moscow, Russia foreign correspondent. She spent the next year studying languages and linguistics in France at the University of Strasbourg in the Alsace region, which borders Germany. Mrs. Goyne was a language major, and wanted immersion in both French and German. She studied Russian and Dutch too, and enjoyed travelling north to see my family in the Netherlands on every vacation. She finished her college career back in Washington D.C. at American University with more language and education courses finishing with a degree in French Studies in order to become a French teacher. During her schooling years Mrs. Goyne played a lot of tennis and sailed almost every week-end. Mrs. Goyne decided to become a teacher because she has always liked kids and love seeing them grow. Mrs. Goyne always been curious to learn about so many things, and really enjoy sharing that with others and helping them satisfy their curiosity too. Helping others understand and gain new skills is meaningful work and it’s an honor to be part of the process. She says “ You kids hold the torch towards the future, and it’s exciting to see you all shine in so many ways!” Mrs. Goyne started at Richford Junior Senior High School 17 years ago. She spends her school day teaching and providing resources to all grade levels. Outside of school Mrs. Goyne enjoys simply being with her family is the best day possible, but for hobbies, observing nature and bird watching probably top the list for her. She loves the science aspect of learning about wildlife behavior and ecosystems, as well as the visual beauty found in nature. Plus it gets her outside and you never know exactly what you might come across, so there’s a bit of suspense in every outing. Really high on Mrs.Goyne list is painting with watercolors too; it’s really rewarding, challenging, and relaxing. She also likes to work in my gardens, read books, travel, and cook. When asking Mrs.Goyne about her favorite book I got this response “Oh man, that is a tough one for this librarian! How to choose?” Her favorite book when she was in elementary school was My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. It’s about a boy who lives alone in the wilderness, and she wanted to do that after reading it! The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak and Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier are two of her favorite titles. She like historical fiction, and these two have well-crafted plots as well as beautiful prose. The authors string words together really well. Mrs. Goyne has two kids that she loves spending time with, Jenny is a nurse at UVM Medical Center, and Annalise is a VSAC Counselor at EFHS and MVU, as well as Berkshire and Montgomery Middle Schools. Right now she doesn't have any pets. My last dog, Lucy, a sweet Golden Retriever, passed away last winter. It still seems odd to her to say she does not have any pets, as her family used to have two horses, lots of sheep, a dog, a cat, ducks, and we even had a rabbit and some feisty roosters at one point!
Teachers words of advise:
