Homer Hadley Hickam Jr.; born on February 19, 1943. is an American author, Vietnam War veteran, and former NASA engineer who prepared Japan for junior space travelers. His 1998 diary, Rocket boy, was a New York Times hit and was the inspiration for the 1999 film October Sky.
Hickam has been writing since his return from Vietnam in 1969. First, he generally wrote about his scuba diving for a wide range of magazines. Then, at that point, after jumping into numerous ship wrecks, he started writing about the fights with U-boats along the U.S. East Coast during World War II. This event prompted his most memorable military history book, Torpedo Junction
