Inductions is an event where all new, chosen NHS inductees swear into the National Honor Society. It is a very special day for all of the new inductees because their family gets to come out and support them in this honoring event. We really try to make it a special day for all those involved.

The blood drives NHS hosts happen at Beaverton Jr./Sr. High School. The blood drives give students and community members a chance to donate blood to the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan. Something special about this event is that at the end of the year we give a scholarship to someone who has influenced the blood drives. The more attempted donations we receive the more money we can give the scholarship recipient.

All week in the beginning of December we go to all the WIN classes and collect change. There is no winner in this event, but rather students are given an opportunity to give back to their community. All the money we receive goes towards buying presents for those in need. NHS adopts families and we buy, wrap, and give the presents to the families.

Coaches vs. Cancer is an event in which NHS has businesses sponsor a major home basketball game (i.e., Varsity boys basketball against Gladwin) and collects additional donations from community members to donate towards the American Cancer Society. Typically, a game such as a free throw challenge is hosted at half time as a way to entice donations, as donors will pledge money towards a team for each free throw shot made. NHS members may be asked to collect donations at the door, at a stand, or in the community. Every year NHS makes sure to recognize cancer survivors, caretakers, and family to show our appreciation for them.

This assembly takes place at the end of the school year and is put together to recognize students who went above and beyond throughout the year to keep up their academics. It is also a time to recognize clubs and organizations that students participate in throughout the schools year. Students are recognized by receiving awards from teachers and staff.

This event typically happens later in the year, beginning of spring. We invite schools from our area to attend a fun event. We have typically five speakers, who talk about leadership and different ways to find success after high school. Another thing we do is create games or activities for the conference. We participate in team bonding and skill games that are not only to be fun, but to help audience members reflect on the speakers' statements. In years past we've been placed with groups of people, most who we don't know, been given a prop, and had to act out a scene. At the end we typically have the speakers sit at round tables for the opportunity for students to speak to them and ask questions. This event is all about how to find your own success and be an active member of society.
