Welcome to
3rd Class!
January has been full steam ahead! We’ve been learning all about the Titanic and showing our creativity through art, including dramatic Titanic silhouettes against sunset backgrounds and detailed Titanic symmetry artwork.
Happy New Year! To start the year, we created vibrant firework pictures using chalk pastels on black card, experimenting with colour, texture, and movement! 🎆
We have been loving the active movement breaks this month as part of the Active Break Every Day Challenge. This four-week challenge helps us build fun movement breaks into our school day. This year’s videos, supported by the GAA, take us behind the scenes at Croke Park, including the dressing rooms, warm-up areas, and team arrival points. We’re staying active while learning some fascinating facts along the way! 🏋️
For St. Brigid’s Day, we enjoyed a beautiful spring afternoon creating traditional St. Brigid’s crosses using rushes. It was a lovely way to celebrate the start of spring, honour St. Brigid, and learn about this special Irish tradition.
Our theme for January has been the Titanic, and we’ve been extremely busy exploring its history! We researched fascinating facts on our chromebooks, created posters and slideshows, and even built Titanic models using recyclable materials.
Working in groups helped us share ideas, cooperate, and bring our projects to life. We then had the exciting opportunity to present our work to each other and to a couple of other classes! Take a look at some of our incredible creations!
We have had a very busy and active term learning gymnastics in P.E. With the help of our instructor Craig, we practised lots of important skills like balancing, rolling, jumping and travelling in different ways.
We worked hard to build our strength, coordination and confidence. Well done to everyone for their fantastic effort and a big thank you to Craig for all his help! 🤸♀️
For maths, we have been busy examining 2D and 3D shapes in lots of fun ways. We used lollipop sticks, matchsticks and marshmallows to build different shapes, and we also explored them using Polypad on our Chromebooks.
We learned about the properties of shapes and explored how shapes can tessellate, rotate, slide and flip. By the end of our work, we realised that shapes are all around us everywhere we look! 👀🟧⚫️🎲🧻
We had a wonderful time celebrating Wellbeing Week! We took part in Kindness Buddies, where each child had a secret buddy to be extra kind to all week. We also made delicious smoothies to learn about keeping our minds and bodies healthy, and enjoyed a special Buddy Breakfast, sharing our morning meal with friends at school.
The fun didn’t stop there! We had lots of active movement breaks to keep us moving and energetic, and enjoyed some engaging Digipal reading activities. It was a fantastic week full of kindness, laughter, friendship, and feeling our very best! 🥣
We learned all about Pop Art and the colourful, exciting work of Andy Warhol. Inspired by his style, we created our own Valentine’s Day art projects.
We designed love heart sweets with bright colours and special messages of love for our family and friends. It was a fun way to be creative, celebrate Valentine’s Day, and spread kindness to the people we care about! 🩷🍬
We had so much fun taking part in the Craft Fair! We made lots of handmade crafts and got to show them to children from Junior Infants all the way up to Sixth Class.
It was exciting to sell our creations and see everyone else’s amazing work. We loved being creative, working together, and sharing our crafts with our friends and school community!
In history, we have been exploring the life of Christopher Columbus. We learned about his early life, his famous 1492 voyage, and how he treated the native people he met. We also discussed how his journeys changed life in Europe.
We had lots of fun doing group jigsaw activities, sequencing games, and a walking true or false debate to test what we had learned. It was really interesting to see how one person’s journey could have such a big effect on the world! ⛴️
We enjoyed making sunflowers with chalk pastels on black card. We experimented with colours to make each flower bright and vibrant. It was great fun seeing everyone’s different ideas come to life. Our sunflowers really brighten up our classroom! 🌻
Spring Planting!
Spring has arrived and we have been busy planting beans and peas in our school polytunnel with the help of Ms Nestor. We feel very lucky to have this amazing space at our school. It was so much fun getting our hands dirty and planting our seeds. Stay tuned to see how they grow over the coming weeks! 🫛🫘
