6th Class 2025/2026

In maths we have been learning about length, perimeter and area. We held a Mini Olympics in the gym. The five events were the long jump, high jump, shot putt, javelin and trolley push. For each event we had to use our estimating and measurement skills to calculate distances and averages.

We also learned how to calculate the perimeter of circles, the area of regular and irregular shapes. With this, we were set the task of calculating the area of our classroom floor for new flooring and underlay, as well as new skirting and architrave. Once we calculated the areas and lengths needs we were able to price everything up using online prices!

In Literacy we have been exploring the Recount and Report Genres. Most of our 5th and 6th class girls were part of the Delvin u12 Camogie team that won the division 1 Camogie final. We used it as an opportunity to create a newspaper report and afterwards, with our new podcasting equipment, we planned out, recorded and edited a news report on the final including interviews with key players and supporters.

In Art we have been learning about American artist, Grant Wood. He is best known for his stylised paintings of the people and life in America in the early 20th Century. His painting, American Gothic is one of the most widely-recognised paintings in the world.

We created our own parody version of American Gothic.
