As part of our Blue Star Programme, we were delighted to welcome Peter Burke TD and Dr Gergely Bánhegyi, Hungarian Ambassador to Ireland, to St Tola’s National School.
The visit was a wonderful opportunity for the children to showcase all of the fantastic work they have completed throughout the year. Pupils proudly presented their European country projects, famous person projects, 3D landmark models, landmark posters, flags, flag facts and European Union posters.
The children spoke confidently about their chosen countries and shared lots of interesting information about Europe, the European Union, famous landmarks, culture and traditions. It was a very meaningful experience for the pupils to have the chance to discuss their learning with such special visitors.
We would like to sincerely thank Peter Burke TD and Dr Gergely Bánhegyi for taking the time to visit our school. It was a very memorable day for all involved and a lovely celebration of our Blue Star Programme learning.
We had a lovely time in class celebrating Pancake Tuesday. The children enjoyed helping to make pancakes and chatting about the ingredients we needed.
We talked about the steps involved, from mixing the batter to cooking the pancakes. The children were very excited to watch the pancakes being made and even more excited to taste them afterwards!
A huge congratulations to St Tola’s Fifth Class on their fantastic win in the Concern Debate Final against St Etchen’s, Kinnegad.
The motion for the final was “In 10 years’ time, no country should be using fossil fuels.” Our team was opposing the motion, and the children worked extremely hard to prepare strong and well-researched arguments. They showed great dedication, teamwork and confidence throughout the whole process.
On the day of the final, the children represented St Tola’s with pride. They spoke clearly and confidently, presented their points with maturity and listened respectfully to the opposing team. Their preparation, quick thinking and excellent debating skills really shone through.
We are so proud of Fifth Class for this wonderful achievement. Winning the Concern Debate Final is a fantastic accomplishment and a great reflection of the hard work and commitment shown by the pupils.
We were also treated to a very special performance from Lauryn Smith in our class. Lauryn danced beautifully for us before she heads off to represent herself at the World Dancing Championships in Chicago. Everyone was so impressed by her talent, confidence and hard work.
We are very proud of Lauryn and wish her the very best of luck on this amazing adventure. We will all be cheering her on from school!
We had a very exciting visit in school recently when CBS Secondary School Mullingar came to see us with the All-Ireland trophy, which they proudly won. The children were delighted to see the trophy up close and to hear about such a fantastic achievement.
We had a wonderful day out in Kinnegad to celebrate winning the class prize for selling the most raffle tickets. Everyone was very excited heading off on our special trip. We went with Junior Infants as we both sold the same amount of tickets!!
Our first stop was Kinnegad Library, where the children enjoyed exploring the books and spending time in a lovely, welcoming reading space. It was great to see their enthusiasm as they looked through different stories and shared their favourite books with their friends.
After the library, we made our way to the playground. The children had great fun playing together, climbing, sliding, swinging and making the most of the fresh air. There were lots of smiles, laughter and happy memories made.
To finish off our trip, we visited Supermac’s. This was a lovely way to end our day out.
Our class is delighted to announce that we won Round 1 of the Concern Primary Debates 2025 in an exciting and very close debate against Clontuskert National School.
We have been working on our debate for several weeks, researching, practising, writing, and supporting one another. When debate day finally arrived, everyone in the class had a part to play.
Elsa, our Captain, opened and closed the debate with confidence and leadership, guiding the team from start to finish.
Finn and Ailbhe spoke brilliantly as our second and third speakers, delivering strong arguments, clear evidence and thoughtful rebuttals.
Emily did an excellent job as Chairperson, keeping the debate running smoothly and professionally.
Henry, our Timekeeper, helped ensure each speaker stayed on track and kept the structure of the debate in place.
All of fifth class played a huge role too. Everyone worked together to research facts, prepare arguments, practise speeches, brainstorm rebuttals and give feedback during rehearsals.
The adjudicator praised our teamwork, our organisation, our use of evidence and the respect we showed throughout the debate.
We were very proud of how we represented ourselves, and we are already looking forward to preparing for the next round.
A huge well done to everyone involved - We look forward to Round 2!
We have been studying all about homes from different times in history. We created projects on each era. We had a showcase and invited some of the other classes to visit!
We took part in Maths Eyes 2025 as part of maths week. We looked closely around us for maths in our every day environment!
There were lots of different maths activities in our school! We completed an outdoor maths trail with the junior infants which was one of our highlights!
We had a great day in Clonkill representing the school. Both boys team and girls team played really well! St Tolas abú!
We love working with our Junior Infant class! This term has been lots of fun getting to know them and doing different activities!
We are big fans of Michael Morpurgo in fifth class! We would highly recommend The Wreck of the Zanzibar!
