Eagle Scout Project Proposal - Marian Rosary Pillars
Project By
Josh Joseph
Description
When our church was originally constructed, we made a Grotto to encourage Marian devotion and landscaping was done around it. My project plan is to make this Grotto into a Rosary garden space by erecting 4 pillars (one for each set of mysteries) around the Grotto. This would promote better meditation on the mysteries of the Rosary, since each pillar includes depictions of the mysteries and a statue of Mother Mary. These four pillars would be placed evenly around the circular Grotto area (see proposal for images).
The pillars would be custom-made by Wayside Shrines, whom we have been in communication with. They have provided computer renderings of the pillar which are provided in the proposal. These pillars are 3” x 6” x 8’ tall, but would need to be placed far into the ground to account for NJ’s frost line regulations. In the end, the pillars would stand around 6 feet tall. These would be placed in the grassy area around the Grotto, which currently is not being used. The physical project entails digging and filling concrete to cement the pillars. Around 10 people would be required to undertake this project, and the total cost would be around $2500.

Eagle Scout Project - Permanent Merestone Markers
Project By
Isaac Sebastian
Description
For my Eagle project, I installed merestone boundary markers at 7 out of 8 property corners of St. Thomas Syro-malabar Church in Somerset, NJ. I led a team of 12 volunteers in locating the corners, clearing a path to corners, clearing the area of the corners, transporting the materials, digging holes, pouring concrete and cleaning up the sites. The result of my eagle project is boundary markers that are visible and ones that will last for years to come. Having permanent and visible boundary markers will help the church identify the areas they can utilize when planning expansion projects such as: building/extending facilities for Sunday School, building a children's play area, expanding both the vegetable garden, and sustainability projects by the Green Army, which carries out composting/food waste initiatives along with educating the children and youth about sustainability.

Eagle Scout Project - Building Outdoor Gathering Spaces
Project By
Abel Stephen
Description
The Eagle Scout Project proposed will have two main facets - cleaning out and recycling trash surrounding the project area and installing four new park benches to the project area. Since COVID-19 quarantine had begun, St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Church, the beneficiary has not been able to hold in-person meetings or gatherings for several months. The proposed project would increase outdoor seating for outdoor gatherings with proper social distancing guidelines. Additionally the project would align with the beneficiary's future plans for the space and it would allow for the space to become a multi-purpose area. This project would save the church about $950 with additional labor cost savings.

Eagle Scout Project - Kalkurisu Landscaping
Project By
Leo R. George
Description
The Eagle Scout Project proposed to do landscaping in the bed surrounding the Kalkurishu in front of the church. The objective was to accentuate the beauty of the church structure and contribute to the peaceful, welcoming atmosphere of the church and beckoning visitors to seek out spiritual nourishment in the church. The existing landscaping that came with the initial construction needed significant improvements as it had dried out and looked very unwelcoming. The proposal was to install Green Velvet boxwoods which are hardy to the zone where this church is located. A 12-18" wide band filled with marble stones 3/4" size would surround the Kalkurishu. Within the boxwoods there would be perennials and annuals that would come up seasonally and add color to the landscaping.

Description
My project is to build a carport for the parish priest at the church rectory. The port will be adjacent to the sidewalk for the rectory and will be located within short walking distance to his doorstep for his convenience. The rectory does not currently have a garage or a covered carport. The carport will be permanently posted into the ground using 6x6 and 2.6 tons of gravel will be laid for the 252 sq. ft under the carport. This project will benefit the vicar so that his car will not be damaged by weather conditions.
