GReen Army @ STSMCC, Somerset NJ

Pope Francis invites us through his encyclical and his teachings, "Let us to be the protectors of creation, protectors of Gods plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another and of the environment." Syro Green Army is our church community initiative to create awareness about the importance of protecting our Common Home and  finding creative ways to cultivate growth in both plant life and the community.

Care for creation and Green Army together did 4 weekend seedlings sales for “hunger hunt”. Started with a dream of sending 100,000 Rs to Hunger Hunt. Due to the overwhelming participation we raised our dream to 200,000 Rs then 300,000 Rs. Today the 4th Sunday alone we collected over $3500. As of now we collected over $6500. 👏👏👏👏The final amount will be posted after couple of days. Our Achan is planning to talk to Chirammel Achan and church will be transferring 500,000 Rs to Hunger Hunt. 👏👏👏👏👏.

I would like say big thanks to all the overwhelming support for a good cause. Thanks for all friends who grew all the plants at home and brought to church. Thanks for all our friends who watered the seedlings in our church almost 6 weeks. A very big thanks to Our Achan and Trustees for the full support for this good cause. Thanks to our Care for creation kids and Green Army for make this happen. We together did it. God Bless🙏🙏🙏🙏

Tasks for Green Army

1          Setup green bins and black bins by 11:00 AM. Green bins will be in the electric/storage room next to the kitchen. We setup two stations, each having one green bin and three black bins. Additionally, one black bin should be kept in kitchen and another one near the lunch serving station. Please make sure no other black bin open in any other areas of FH.

2          Monitor the trash stations to make sure everyone follow the guidelines. If any spoon or tissue dropped in the green bin, it can be picked up using the trash picker.

3          Weigh the food waste at 1:30 PM.

4          Mix the food waste with the hydrated coco peat and drop in the compost bin. Hydrated material is kept in the electrical/storage room. Make sure no spoons and tissue papers are in the mixture.

5          Fold any card board boxes (approx size 2 X 2) kept in the recycle drop area (next to the FH North exit door)

6          Collect the paper, aluminum,  and plastic bottles from the Recycle blue bins and place them in the recycle drop area bins.

7          Collect rice trays and stack them and drop in the recycle pickup area outside FH.

8          Do a quick tour of the facility and pick up any cardboard boxes left as trash and keep it folded in the recycle drop area.

9          Help flower arrangement team to recycle used flowers or leftovers from flower arrangements

11       Hydrate 3 bricks, one brick each in one bucket.  Pour water using the measuring bottle. Buckets and bricks are in the electric/store room
