Classroom Happenings

2023 to 2024

January

This January we are studying Native American tribes as we perfect reading nonfiction texts and how to use text features help us understand what we are reading. We also celebrated Catholic Schools Week by completing a community service project with our KB buddies and learning about careers!

Thank you Dr. Bystricky and Coach Burke!

No Sew Blankets

4A and KB buddies teamed up to make no sew blankets for House of Bread to serve others during Catholic Schools Week!

Valentine Card Shop!

When finished making no sew blankets, we made valentines to go with our donations.

Nonfiction Notetaking

Great nonfiction readers use what they learn to teach others!

December

In December, 4A students visited with their KB buddies to learn about holidays celebrated around the world! Some of the places we "traveled" to were India to celebrate Diwali, China for Chinese New Year, Israel for Hanukkah, and Mexico for Dia de Guadalupe.

November

Despite being a few days late, we prayed our Holy Rosary to celebrate the month of the Rosary as a fourth grade family. We learned about the prayers, the joyful mysteries, who Mary was, and reflected on how we can live more like Jesus did. We also have been celebrating the lives of saints! After mass on All Saint's Day, students presented their saint projects that they worked on during October.

Living Rosary

As a fourth grade community, students prayed the living rosary. Each student was responsible for leading the group in several prayers of our Holy Rosary. Together they learned the joyful mysteries and reflected on how they can live like Jesus and be a great Christian like Mary.

October

This month we have had a special visitor in our class! Check out the fun adventures we have been having in our class!

Renewable Energy

During our retreat at Holy Family, students learned how the retreat center Cares for God's Creation by using solar panels.

Positive Potato!

Adjusting to 4th grade has been a change for our students. To help brighten their day and keep them motivated, the Positive Potato travels around the room to visit with the students that need him most!

Religious Retreat

Thanks to Mrs. Peters, Father David, and our friends at Holy Family Retreat Center for reminding us to love and appreciate God's gift of nature.

Government Scavenger Hunt

Students continue to study the national government. During a scavenger hunt, they reviewed the three branches of government and learned interesting facts!

September

September is an exciting time in our classroom! Together we are leanring about each other, how to behave in a new class, and creating pieces of writing to be shared with others.

Students have started their own government by creating a classroom constitution! Together 4A wrote laws about how to follow our classroom intentions of faith, scholarship, service, kindness, safety, and respect. Each morning we recite our constitution to remind ourselves about the laws on classroom 4A.

We started our first community service project! It is an honor and privilege for 4th grader students to promote the Care for God's Creation by  helping our school recycle each week. To promote this initiative, 4th graders created posters informing our school community about what can and can't be recycled and the need to Care for God's Creation!

4A students explored what causes erosion and HOW it happens!
