In Term 4 we will be focusing on:
Weeks 1-4: Newspaper Articles: Students will learn how to identify the key features of news writing, such as catchy headlines, factual reporting, and writing in the third person. They will explore how to structure articles with clear introductions, supporting details, and quotes. This learning will be integrated with our topic, 'Kiwis Who've Conquered'. Students will research and write newspaper style reports about significant New Zealand figures and events, celebrating the contributions of local heroes who have shaped our country’s story. This will help students build both their writing skills and their understanding of New Zealand’s rich history.
Weeks 5-7: Diary/ Letter Writing: Students will learn how to express thoughts, feelings, and experiences through personal and formal writing styles. They will explore how to use first-person perspective, descriptive language, and tone to create authentic and engaging diary entries and letters. This learning will be integrated with our topic, 'Kiwis Who've Conquered'. Students will take on the perspectives of historical New Zealand figures or everyday people from the past, writing diary entries and letters that reflect life during key moments in our nation’s history. This will help deepen their historical understanding and ability to write with voice and emotion.
Weeks 8-9: Poetry: Students will learn to use language creatively to express ideas, emotions, and observations about the world around them. The focus will be on developing their ability to choose precise words and use figurative language to create powerful and imaginative pieces of writing.
