Hello, Pre-K 1 Families,

Welcome to November! November is Good Nutrition Month and Child Safety and Protection Month. Daylight Savings time is Sunday, November 3rd. In school we have been very busy exploring new fall materials, learning new songs and finger plays and increasing our social skills. We are a large group and it has been great to watch each child grow in becoming part of the classroom community.

This week as we start our new unit All About Us, the children develop a concept and awareness of themselves as unique individuals. A strong sense of self supports children’s success in pre-K and lays the groundwork for realizing their potential throughout their school and life experiences. Unit activities such as self-portraits and like/dislike activities invite children to think about and express their ideas about who they are. Throughout the unit there are also opportunities for children to explore the attributes of their names. Names are an important part of what makes them unique and are a helpful starting point for developing a wide range of early literacy skills as children are naturally interested in their own names.

Here are some academic vocabulary words we will be using this week that may help children understand the unit and you can use at home too: alike, curly, different, first name, favorite, individual, interest, important, last name, portrait, prefer, same, self-portrait, short, special, skill, straight, strength, tall, unique, wavy

Reminders

o Wednesday, November – ½ Day 11:50am Dismissal

o Thursday 28 & Friday 29 – Thanksgiving break NO SCHOOL

Have a great weekend! - Ms. Morgan, Mrs. C, & Mrs. Solis

This week we wrapped up the “My five senses” unit of study. We investigate the sense of touch and its many textures, such as rough, smooth, hard, soft, wet, dry, bumpy and spikey. We did a Fall Touch and Match game, where we placed our hands into a paper bag and touch the fall item when used our sense to describe the texture of each item. We also had our annual Halloween parade and also trick or treat around our school building. We ended our week making five senses collages.

Next week we start our new unit “All about Us”, children develop a concept and awareness of themselves as unique individuals.
