Week Commencing 02/06/25 Module 6 2024-2025
Mr Jon Richardson - Principal
Dear Parents/Carers,
I hope this message finds you well.
We have had a truly fantastic first week back at Strood Academy as we welcome in the final module of the academic year. It is heartening to see our pupils settle back into routine expertly, demonstrating resilience and enthusiasm. They have applied themselves diligently in lessons and have thrived in the vast array of extracurricular clubs that we are proud to offer. I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting many lessons this week and observing our pupils engaged in their learning, displaying curiosity and a desire to excel.
I would like to highlight the exceptional efforts of our Year 11 and Year 13 pupils, who are working tirelessly on their examinations. Their commitment to their studies is commendable and reflects their dedication to achieving their academic goals. Many of our Year 13 pupils are now preparing to depart the academy after completing their exams, and while we celebrate their achievements, we will certainly miss their vibrant presence within our academy community. For our Year 11 pupils, there is just over a week to go, and Mr Fatnaia will be communicating soon with all parents and pupils regarding some slight adjustments to the final full week, including arrangements for the last day for Year 11. We all recognise how much they cherish the opportunity to thank their teachers, enjoy final moments together, and partake in the tradition of signing each other’s shirts — a very special rite of passage that underscores the bonds they have formed during their time at Strood Academy.
This week has also been marked by enriching experiences outside of the classroom. We had a successful Think Forward trip as part of our Business Mentoring programme, during which our pupils gained valuable insights into the world of work and entrepreneurship. Additionally, the BAE Roadshow held in our Sports Hall was an exciting event for our Year 8 pupils, who were able to engage with industry professionals and explore various career opportunities available to them. Such initiatives are vital in broadening our pupils' horizons and providing them with practical knowledge and inspiration for their futures.
Regrettably, I must inform you that our annual event, ‘Together in Strood’, has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions. We are currently in the process of planning ahead and are hopeful of rescheduling this cherished community event. Full details will be shared with you as soon as they are available, and we appreciate your understanding and support during this time.
Thank you once again for your continued partnership and support in your child's education. Working together, we can help our pupils achieve their full potential.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Jon Richardson

At Strood Academy, we take pride in reflecting on our progress over the past two years. As we continue our journey towards Vision 2028, we celebrate key achievements that have strengthened our academy’s culture and learning environment.
Embedding Key Routines: We have established and reinforced routines such as morning line-ups, assembly protocols, and structured transitions between lessons. These ensure students move with purpose, feel safe, and are ready to engage in learning.
Addressing 'Culture Killers': We have tackled challenges such as poor uniform standards, litter, inappropriate language, and disengaged behavior in lessons. By setting high expectations, we foster a culture where students take pride in their presentation, remain focused in class, and contribute positively to our academy community.
Standardising Homework Expectations: A consistent approach to homework has been introduced, ensuring all students understand expectations and the value of completing independent study. This supports their academic progress and develops self-discipline.
Encouraging Extracurricular Engagement: We continue to promote student participation in clubs and activities, both during lunch and after school. By offering a wide range of opportunities, we nurture students' interests, talents, and social development beyond the classroom.
Strengthening Parent & Community Relations: Effective communication with parents, carers, and the local community has been a priority. Through social media updates, Weekly Parent Bulletins, and events such as Parents’ Evenings, Year 7 Meet the Form Tutor, Parent Voice Forums, and Parental Drop-Ins, we ensure families are engaged in their child’s education. We have also introduced accessible tools like the 'Request Call Back' button and college-specific email addresses to improve communication.
We are proud of the progress we have made and remain committed to further enhancing our academy experience. While there is always more to achieve, we are excited to build on our successes and continue striving for excellence in the years ahead.
