World Trials
The benchmark for world trials was 17.5 and Sofia competed last Saturday and Sunday. Saturday her score was 17.7 and Sunday her score was 17.95. She came 3rd and although she won't go to worlds this year, as they are only taking one in her category, she came away from Southport with a very good name for herself and a new personal best!
Heathrow international.
Sofia did very well at this competition. She qualified in 1st place on the Saturday and then placed 4th in finals in the open competition. She also placed 1st in her category for the closed competition. On top of this, her trio qualified in 3rd and then came 2nd in the finals. In the closed competition they came 1st.
Our entire Strood Academy community is so proud of you Sofia - well done!
Shine Media Awards Nomination
During the half term, we were informed that the school newspaper 'The Perspective' has been shortlisted for the Shine Media Awards. We look forward to finding out the results at the awards ceremony which will be held in July. A huge well done to all involved!
Olivia's Cheerleading Achievements
On Saturday, Olivia in Year 7 competed in the Cheer City Nationals in Loughborough. Her team, Mystique of MCDA Allstars, came 1st as well as hitting zero on their routine, meaning they had no deductions. With this being her first season, this is even more of an achievement! Well done Olivia, we are so proud!
Towards the end of Module 3, we introduced a number of new rewards for students including MYP Learner profile attribute badges and Friday attendance rewards. Information on these rewards can be seen below.
MYP Learner profile attribute badges can be awarded for:
Achieving 10 or more reward points in that attribute.
Completing an additional task/community project/something notable outside of their lesson time.
Individual nominations from staff members.
Friday attendance rewards: students are having the chance to be rewarded if they attend a full week at school from Friday to Thursday each week. Rewards are being given out the following Friday and students must be in attendance on that day to receive their reward. Two students per year group, per college are being awarded a certificate and a prize if their attendance is 100% during this period.
We have celebrated a number of these rewards so far and we look forward to awarding more badges, prizes and certificates to students throughout the rest of the academic year.
