Principal's Message

Mr Jon Richardson - Principal

Dear Parents/Carers,

We’ve had another extremely busy week with so much going on within the academy.

This week we’ve introduced a one way system to one of our stairwells within Hercules College in the response to a pupil survey in module 6. This has enabled our pupils to move calmly and safely across the academy. This week we have also introduced tension barriers within our larger corridor areas to enhance the effectiveness of transition, again this is in response to pupils. This has had a really positive impact in our academy.

At the end of the academy day pupils now walk a slightly longer way to exit the academy, which takes them down to our MUGA and through double gates and then looping back around the front of the academy, this enables pupils to leave in a calmer manner rather than a large number of pupils exiting through a single pedestrian gate. All of these tweaks to the running of our academy have been successful in enabling our pupils to feel safe within the academy again in response to feedback from our pupils.

On Thursday evening we held our open evening for our Year 6 pupils. What an incredible evening, with over 200 families joining us for the evening. They had the opportunity to view all subjects within the academy as well as be part of a presentation and performance by the school band but also hear from Year 7 and Year 12 pupils in regards to their experiences at Strood Academy. An excellent evening enjoyed by so many. I must say a huge thank you to all of our pupil helpers. We had over 120 pupils volunteer to support us with our open evening and it was a huge success. Thank you to all involved who made it such a special evening.

We look forward to hosting three open mornings commencing next week to enable our parents/carers and pupils the opportunity to view the academy in full action. A really well worth and valuable experience.

You will be receiving further information reference our lockdown procedure, this will provide everything you need to know. Our pupils will be taught next week of their expectations should we need to go into a lockdown procedure. We will have a rehearsal during module 1. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the college teams.

Thank you for your continued support, our pupils continue to amaze us each and every day.

Have a restful weekend and we look forward to welcoming pupils back on Monday morning.

Open Evening - Thursday 21st September

Please see below images of our spectacular open evening. What an absolute honour to welcome the year 6s into our Academy. We are immensely proud of all of the hard work from students volunteering as tour guides, to sixth form students and members of staff preparing and delivering speeches, to each individual department putting together a range of games, activities and resources to showcase to year 6 students and their parents. We thank every student and staff member for their participation as well as every year 6 student and their parents for considering Strood Academy as a potential secondary school for their child - we are beyond grateful.
