Well done to all Year 11 students who completed the first of their GCSE exams this week. With Art, Design and Technology exams, as well as Spanish Speaking exams taking place this week, many students sat their first official GCSE exam. While we understand this may be a stressful time, these students have shown such hard work and resilience not only throughout the entire two years of their GCSE course, but especially this past week. Well done to you all!
Over the Easter Holidays, Sofia in Year 7 competed as part of the elite squad of Heathrow Aerobic Gymnastics, representing their club and GBR in the 25th Slovakian Aerobic Open 2024. Sofia came 13th out of 75 gymnasts and scored her personal best of 17.3, an even more spectacular achievement considering she has just moved into the category of gymnasts aged 12-14. A huge well done from everyone here at Strood Academy! We are so proud of Sofia for these fantastic achievements and absolutely honoured to be able to share these images with our community.
Last week, we welcomed a second group of students from Spain into our academy. Once again, they were buddied up with Strood Academy students and followed their timetables, getting an insight into lessons at our academy, as well as forming friendships which will no doubt last a lifetime. We are so proud of how caring and open minded our community was in welcoming these students. A huge well done to you all.
Towards the end of Module 3, we introduced a number of new rewards for students including MYP Learner profile attribute badges and Friday attendance rewards. Information on these rewards can be seen below.
MYP Learner profile attribute badges can be awarded for:
Achieving 10 or more reward points in that attribute.
Completing an additional task/community project/something notable outside of their lesson time.
Individual nominations from staff members.
Friday attendance rewards: students are having the chance to be rewarded if they attend a full week at school from Friday to Thursday each week. Rewards are being given out the following Friday and students must be in attendance on that day to receive their reward. Two students per year group, per college are being awarded a certificate and a prize if their attendance is 100% during this period.
We have celebrated a number of these rewards so far and we look forward to awarding more badges, prizes and certificates to students throughout the rest of the academic year.
