World Asthma Day (May 7th 2024)
World Asthma Day is recognised on 7th May each year. The attached TIME document is useful for parents and carers as well as professionals, providing support for how to spot an asthma attack and how to support should this occur.
MMR vaccine catch-up clinics running this April and May. Make sure your child is protected from measles
Following a rise in measles cases in London and England, the NHS are urging parents and carers to make sure their children are up-to-date with their MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccinations. To do this you can check your child’s red book, or check with your GP, who can offer MMR catch-up appointments. Measles can lead to serious illness but it is preventable through two doses of the MMR vaccine.
Catch-up clinics are available to school-aged children, and teens up 19 years old, on Saturday, 27 April and Saturday 18 May at the Clover Street Clinic in Chatham.

For more information, please see the letter shared with parents and carers earlier this week. We look forward to seeing you there.
Reintroduction of Year 11 Privilege Cards
We had a great start to the module on Monday with Year 11 attendance being a fantastic 97.1%! To reward them for this exceptional figure we are re-introducing the privilege cards. Well done to all Year 11 students, this is a great way to start the module and this high attendance will surely pay off in the coming weeks.
Exam Stress
With Year 11 GCSEs fast approaching, it is important to take some time to look at exam stress and the impact this may have on a young person's mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. This guide offers you ten practical tips for helping your children to manage exam stress and minimise its potentially detrimental effects. Our staff are available to support students and families at this time, as we realise exam stress can affect not only students but also those around them. Please feel free to reach out to us at Strood Academy for any support required.

Early Finish Fridays: any 6th form students who achieve 100% attendance for the week have the opportunity of leaving during lunchtimes on Friday. Ms Stubbs will be liaising with eligible students. Please refer to the letter shared this week for further information on this.
Years 12 and 13 have subject-specific study periods built into their timetables, roomed into the study area. This area is now being supervised as a quiet study area to enable students to continue with their set subject work. We hope students find this useful.
