Principal's Message

Mr Jon Richardson - Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you’ve all enjoyed a restful festive period.

Thank you for your continued support. Our pupils have returned to school this week in a superb manner. Uniform standards have been excellent and pupils have settled back into their strong routines which were set in the autumn term.

Sixth Form:

On Thursday 11th January we welcome our Sixth Form parents/carers into the academy for parents evening. It will be a fantastic opportunity to engage in conversations to provide further feedback. Please see the letter from Ms Hancock with all details here.

Year 11:

From Tuesday 9th January our Year 11 pupils will be receiving tailored interventions within the core subjects during Period 1. To support this we are going to complete the morning line up as a year group rather than within their college. The reasons for this are the following:

The Year 11 line up will take place in the Sports Hall and be led by Mr Fatania and Mr Minshull. Year 11 form tutors will be on hand to support a smooth start to the day.

From next week we will also be removing Year 11 from our weekly college assemblies. They will continue to have a Year 11 assembly on Monday Period 1 to set themselves up for the week ahead but we aim to use the additional time to support them with additional learning.

Trafalgar Toilets:

Over the Christmas break we have had external doors fitted on both the ground floor and level 1 toilets. We are now going to refurbish the Trafalgar toilets and will be bringing these back up to the required standard. Our aim is then to progress through the academy and complete the other toilet areas. The full refurbishment project is expected to cost in excess of £100,000 so we will have to manage this over a period of time. On pupil and parent request we are going to be changing the ground floor Trafalgar toilet to a female toilet, this will happen once the toilets have been refurbished. I will of course keep you posted on further developments.

Copperhouse Road Entrance/Exit:

Towards the end of Module 2 I asked parents/carers the preferred entrance and exit as we acknowledge the congestion at our main entrance on Carnation Road. I am now completing a consultation process with residents of Copperhouse Road and informing them of our proposed intentions to ensure we manage community relations successfully. I will of course keep you updated on the outcome here.

Later in this module we will be completing further pupil and parent surveys, this produced from the Trust, I will of course share further information with you all and the dates that pupils will be completing this in academy.

A reminder to all of our parent drop in sessions, please do use the link (please scroll down) to book an appointment to meet a member of our team.

Thank you for your support as always. We look forward to welcoming pupils back to the academy on Monday morning at 8:30am.

Regards

Mr Jon Richardson
