The History behind S.H.E. Basketball Officiating

I did NOT want to referee basketball.

So why am I now a Div 1 NCAA Women’s Basketball official, almost 20 years later?

Because of the help I received from the women of Foothill-Citrus High School Basketball Association. We sat together in Starbucks after the General Meeting and discussed the aspects of officiating that they don't usually have time to cover in a general association meeting. We talked about things like hair, clothes, how to study, how to schedule your time, money, goals, and more. They provided me with support, guidance, and inspiration, and helped me prepare for what I was getting myself into.

Now, I want to pay it forward by providing the same support, guidance, and inspiration to new and up-and-coming officials.

SHE Basketball Officiating is a platform that provides support for new and upcoming basketball officials. With a team of officials who have excelled at various aspects of officiating, SHE is willing to share their knowledge and experience to help other officials navigate the other 90% of basketball officiating.

SHE offers various services, including pre-season and in-season evaluations, end-of-season reports, and virtual meetings focused on topics such as officiating as a business, uniforms, travel, and scheduling. To participate, officials must be active and willing to try; SHE is there to guide them. The organization welcomes officials of all levels, as everyone has something to learn and something to give.

SHE also offers on-court training and regular meetings throughout the year. They provide a safe space for female officials to have conversations about topics unique to them, such as undergarments and hair. However, SHE is open to anyone who needs/wants guidance.
